GETTING STARTED

WELCOME TO CLA WEB CONTENT MANAGERS

Welcome fellow CSULB web workers! Many of us have toiled in isolation, with occasional, sometimes frequent, calls to Tech Services, trying to deal with some issue in Contribute. We hope to remedy that with this Contribute support blog. Share the common problems you experience in your web work, or a particularly frustrating obstacle you have encountered in creating or maintaining your web pages and sites. Even better, share the solutions you have found for these problems, or tips for getting around particular obstacles in Contribute, or techniques you have found to make your site more interesting. Or add to our discussion of graphics, audio or multimedia tools that members have found particularly useful. Together we can find ways to make our web sites more accessible, informative and creative. Let the blogging begin!

As much as I would like to take credit for the above welcome, in good conscience I cannot. It was written by Hicks Marlow; Content Manger for the Sociology web. This confession of mine is being done to enforce my feelings on a theme that Hicks brought forward and that is we are a team, a collaboration of efforts. Contribute-tors helping Contribute-tors,

WRITE ON,

BELOW IS A TEMPORARY LINK TO AN ARCHIVED CLASS I TOOK ON ACCESSIBILITY . Simple thigs like using the "HEADING" settings in Contribute instead of bolding makes a big difference. pz

TOOLS
The “tools” section would be a good place to discuss things like free or cheap graphics and audio tools to use in web work.

(http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ A full-featured sound editor and recorder
“Gimp” is a pretty good low-end competitor to Photoshop, or at least Photoshop Elements (http://www.gimp.org/features/ ). I think it even handles layers.
One of the best Swiss Army Knife graphics utilities I’ve found is “SnagIt,” http://www.download.com/Snagit/3000-2192_4-10004813.html
